  Thanks for reply, I got the sorce from sourceforge. 
this is the file I dled xfce-3.8.18.tar.gz size of 5166881. 
ups, soory, it was in xscreensaver, with egg on face<g>.

  Still have a black screen and nothing else. Is there a switch
or something that I missed?
