Making mail check panel plugin work with POP servers?

That's in CVS head.

So, how would I go about if I wanted to use this feature in an existing Xfce
4.0.1 environment installed from Todd Slater's RPMs? I downloaded the
mailcheck.c file but 'gcc mailcheck.c' just gives me a bunch of errors.

I will be installing 4.0.2 shortly, but was wondering if I could get this ting
to work before that...
