Xfce4 + Knoppix + Debian unstable

Dear all,

I would like to test Xfce 4.0 under my Knoppix Debian station. I upgraded the 
system to Debian unstable and installed all xfce4* debs. When arriving at kdm 
login, I can start xfce but not xfce4 (stops during boot). I do not see any 
log in /var/log/something. Are there any?

What are the required steps for running Xfce4 from KDM (I would like to be 
able to choose between KDE and XFCE)?
