that's a good choice. ;-) slackware is i bit more bare-bones than RH, so
things won't always come as easy, but you'll learn more and get better
control over your system.
do you know the newsgroup alt.os.linux.slackware? it can be a tough group,
but if you're willing to learn, it's a very good place to go for help.

if you've done a full install, it should have been installed. so my guess
is you didn't do a full install?

i guess that would be a font issue. dynamic libraries usually end in
version numbers, so you can be pretty sure it's a zero. btw, the utempter
package does not actually contain the file libutempter.so.0, but
libutempter.so.0.5.2 (IIRC). the package's install script will create a
sym-link libutempter.so.0 to this file. (you should take a look in /usr/lib
to see how this libraries naming works.)
