XFCE4 FreeBSD 5.1 install problems

Mmmm, g'day,

I seem to be having a few install problems on my shiny FreeBSD 5.1 box.
I have tried both FreeBSD's port of RC2 and the newer RC3 source, and both 
give the same problem, they tell me the libxfce4util-1.0.pc library can't 
be found.
I am -- of course being the nice person that I am -- nicely following the 
manual and am installing things in the correct order, this error, as you 
have guessed, comes from the libxfce4util installation.
I have tried everything, I've changed the library directories in my path, 
tried different versions, etc etc etc, and it keeps giving the same 
accursed error. Why is it doing this? And better yet, is there a 
workaround? (Preferably one that does not include my rewriting the entire 
system)
