Joe,

  I don't know that it defaults to anything. This past weekend I was finally
able to get it installed on my notebook and called it quits for the time
being.

  We don't run either KDE or Gnome here so I elected to not install any of
those. Is a display manager installed anyway when X is installed? I don't
know. I'll go look on my notebook when I have the opportunity.
