There's a difference between the rpm database dependencies and the
library configurations. They are not related to each other at all.

Slackware is finally getting close to the rpm and debian systems now.
In the old days the only way to upgrade a Slackware system was to
reformat the HD and reinstall from scratch. All of the distros have
really come a long way.
