Versions

Hello everybody!

As I prefer using stable releases I'm getting a little confused with the
version number. Currently I'm using 3.8.16. Some threads ago I've read
that version 3.8.18 could be released in the near future. Now I'm reading
something about a version 4.

Maybe someone can explain a little bit what will be expected as the next
stable release and in with points the serveral branches (3/4) differ?

BTW, xfce became my favorit WM and I'm looking forward for the next
releases.
