xft on rRedHat 8.0,

I just installed Red Hat 8.0 on my computer and when I built XFce from a
source rpm I did put --enable-xft in the spec file but after building
and installing the 3.8.18 xft doesn't seem to be working, the fonts are
jagged, It had been fine on SuSE 7.0 a couple of days ago. Is it a
RedHat specific issue, related to the particular fonst RH has installed
? Or did I mess something up? I miss the smooth fonts:( I want my xft!
