As a new user myself, I was wondering if anyone has had this experience or if 
it is another bug/feature?

Unless I uncheck the repaint root window (or maybe it is check, I can't 
remember off the top of my head) option in the setup, whenever I move from
one workspace to another it loses the backdrop.  Also I haven't found where to 
choose a background color for the workspaces.  My fourth workspace always has
a background color set, but I haven't found where to change it or where to set 
it for my other workspaces.
