Gimp and XFce (arrow key problem)

Philip,

Your problem comes from the design of X11R6 rather than Xfce.

In X11R6, the keys Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, Num Lock, etc. are treated as
modifiers.

A KeyPress event is generated when you press the keyboard, and along
with the keycode, comes the modifier field. In other terms, it means
that, in X11R6, a key press event is different when a lock key is
enabled.

There are techniques to avoid this, and Xfce use them for its own
bindings. Unfortunately, it seems that not all X11 apps use that.

In a nutshell, The Gimp should take care of this, and you may enter a
request for the Gimp developpment team. In the meantime, unselect all
modifiers if you want to use that functinnality in The Gimp.

Hope that make sense,

Cheers,
Olivier.

In Gimp, the user can use the arrow keys to move floating selections and layers. This doesn't work with running under XFce.

I have also edited ~/.xfce/fvwmrc and commented out all of (what I thought was the default) bindings for RIGHT LEFT UP DOWN. When I restart XFce everything is fine. The Gimp works correctly. For a while. I have not figured out yet if it quits working after a given time, or if it quits after the use of some give key binding in XFce. What I do know is that it quits working. If I exit and reload (not restart) XFce it will work again for x amount of time, usually only 5-10 mins.
