Hi all,

my colleagues already sent out some information to help the new
translators and here I will also try to help a bit. There are a couple
of things that new translators should do before sending in translations
and most of these things are explained on the i18n.xfce.org website.

To begin with, have a look here
http://i18n.xfce.org/wiki/svn_howto#svn_scripts_for_translating_.po_files and grab the scripts for the 4.4 branch of Xfce. You will need to have the subversion suite (SVN) installed on your machine.

Once you followed the instructions on the page, you can start
translating the files or creating new ones if needed, you can find
instructions on how to create a new language po file in the translation
guidance under the number 5.

You can always check the status of your newly created files in your
working directory by issuing the command "svn st". When you add new po
files for your language you should add them to your tree with the
command "svn add mynewlanguagepofile.po". Where "mynewlanguagepofile"
should be replaced with your language code.

When at last you have done all this and have a bunch of translated files
to commit, go in the source folder of your tree and issue the command
"svn diff > mynewlanguagepofile.patch". Send the patch to the list and
one fo the committers will update the svn tree with your newly added
changes.

This is the way it works in the Xfce world.

If you think I forgot to mention something, please say so. Also, if you
have any questions about anything related, feel free to ask on this
list.

Thank you in advance for your interest in helping the Xfce project.

Best regards,
Max.
