[Xfce-i18n] more than just .po files to translate

hi translators-
i just want to point out that there are more things than just .po files
that need translating. some modules also have a docs/ directory (ignore
the libraries, as they use gtk-doc, which isn't i18n-able). you can
check these out of CVS using:
$ cvs -d:pserver:anoncvs at cvs.xfce.org:/cvsroot/xfce co docs
there are also other files in the translations module that also need
translating:
xfce4/xfdesktop/menu.xml. it's changed quite a bit since the 4.0
release. to my knowledge, only one or two of the localised versions
have been updated. please just look at the main menu.xml, and copy and
translate that.
xfce4/xfdesktop/modules/menu/xfce-registered-categories.xml. this needs
to be translated as well (same file naming convention as menu.xml).
every <category> item (NOT <subcategory>) should have a replace=""
attribute which contains the translated display name for the category.
note that, in the english version, not all of the <category> tags have a
replace="" attribute, but, for that category to be translated, you'll
need to add one in your localised copy.
xfce4/xfce-utils/xfce4-about/AUTHORS and
xfce4/xfce-utils/xfce4-about/AUTHORS.html. the first is a text version
of the AUTHORS file, the second a HTML version. both should be translated.
xfce4/xfce-utils/xfce4-about/INFO. same as above. this file only has 3
or 4 current translations, for some reason.
xfce4/xfce4-panel/contents.xml. this file should be localised to
contain translations for the labels and tooltips on the default panel
configuration.
.desktop files. scattered throughout the tree (just do a:
$ find -name *.desktop
at the root of the translations tree to see them all) are a bunch of
.desktop files. these need to be translates as well. all the
translations are put in the main .desktop file; there are no separate
files. there are three fields that need to be translated in each file:
Name=
Comment=
GenericName= (if the file doesn't contain a GenericName field,
don't worry about it)
to translate these files, you put, on a separate line, something like:
Name[fr]=(the translation here)
that would allow you to enter the french translation, for example. just
replace the 'fr' in my example with your language code. do the same for
Comment= and GenericName= (if it exists).
whew, i think that should be about it. when i have some time, i'll try
to create statistics-gathering scripts to track the translation status
of these other files as well. for the .po files, remember that you can
look at http://xfce.org/~kelnos/xfce4/i18n/ to track how well each
module and language is translated. the stats are updated twice daily at
07:00 and 19:00 UTC. if you have any questions or concerns, feel free
to ask on this list. thanks to all of you for helping to bring xfce to
other languages!
