possible fix

So this patch seems to fix this in both master and 1.8.12 on my system. All it
does is move one line of code a few lines lower, but when I apply it to master
or 1.8.12, I can do the steps in my previous comment with no segfaults or error
messages (apart from the thunar-volman messages which still happen - so maybe
theses messages are unrelated to this bug?).

Does it work for anyone else?
