That isn't invalid for Thunar.  As of your own application, you can request the
clipboard to be stored so that it stays when the application quits.

(And for text clipboards, it is easier to install the clipman plugin as already
told unlike to patch each GTK+ application that doesn't care about storing the
clipboard).
