Unfortunately, not reproducable. But there's a backtrace.

According to the core dump:

(gdb) print new_iter->setting
$4 = (McsSetting *) 0x60

(gdb) print channel->settings
$5 = (McsList *) 0x0

(gdb) print new_iter
$6 = (McsList *) 0x8053fd0

(gdb) print new_iter->setting->name
Cannot access memory at address 0x60

Oh, it's quite easy to reproduce:

Just enter a image that does not exist in the configuration. You get the
message:

xfdesktop Fehler: lade Hintergrundbild: Datei »/usr/share/x« konnte nicht
geöffnet werden: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

Click ok, then crash. BTW: The error message is displayed in the
background, i.e. behind all normal windows and behind the configuration
manager. So you don't normally see it!!

hmm, i'm unable to reproduce as well.  if i set the backdrop to a
nonexistant image, i just get the dialog as you describe (annoyingly
behind all other windows, i'll fix that as well), and then when i click ok
the backdrop gets set to whatever color is specified in the settings, no
crash.  what version of xfdesktop are you running, and what version of
libxfce4mcs?
