There'll be a "Rename" action in the file context menu and the "File" menu.

For both GtkTreeView and ExoIconView, if a cell renderer is marked as
editable and the user single clicks on the cell area of the renderer for
a given item, then editing will be started. I don't really like this
behaviour. I could change the behaviour for ExoIconView, but I'd prefer
to be inline with what GtkTreeView does. So for now, this question will
be left open, and we focus on the "Rename" action (with the F2 accelerator).
