Wow, what a rant! Obviously most of this email is completely off-topic
(please, start your own thread if you have something different to
discuss), so I will just comment on the relevant parts to the
calculator (and dict) discussion.

Xfce4-dict is working just fine, and has for a long time. If you have
issues running it, I would suggest you ask in a forum related to your
distribution.
Also why the remark about any discouragement from developing the calc
app? From what I have read, everyone _encouraged_ such an application.

I think you need to read those emails again.
> the auto install I mean is about it being attached like a dependancy or similar whereby you cannot get the 4.6.0xx ++ installed w/o it being put in there automatically. - The great thing about distro developers is the treat their users like a ghost. This seems to pretty frequent with most developers in my experience. Even the oliver dude that created xfce. A few of them even talk down to you when you ask a question [nuther xfce thingy] as though being in the beginning of the learning curve is a crime.

Ok, this is weird. You _don't_ want unnecessary programs installed,
but you are very certain that calc and dict are necessary programs.
Well, they are not, since one can easily use Xfce without them. If you
want more comfort in installing Xfce goodies, then that is something
to discuss with your favorite distribution.
Usually people are getting talked down to when are not making much
sense. If you want to have a quality discussion, you need to take the
time to properly prepare and express your argument. Otherwise it is
frustrating to follow, and might result in someone using a less nice
tone.
> I will never go back to Windowzz, but after 3 years, I have come to the conclusion that Linux as a whole is destined to remain strictly a hobby distro. People in this community are just stuck in the past and there are no serious marketing efforts esp. in the USA at all. Despite "Best Efforts" by many, developers in Linux & apps are moving at a snails pace & no one on earth is poised minded to shipwreck MicroJunk and turn them into a stepchild. Indeed, many Linux users seem OFFENDED that I suggest we garner our muster and give Hill Billy a bloody nose and run his company into the ground.

We need all the help we can get any people need to get off their high horse and do a mike tyson on bill gates ass. ~ a 30 second knockout. To do this, people will need to answer users questions and treat them in a welcome manner. [which all too frequently ain't happening].

I guess it's a lot like being in high school, only "Certain" people are afforded the right to have a car [or not get their windows bashed out in the parking lot] or get treated like they are not intellectually inferior to the so called "in" crowd. Or simply ignored. [sigh] WTF.

Comments like that make a decent discussion difficult. Most people on
this list have precious little spare time. If you want to contribute
constructively to Xfce (or any other OSS), then you need to think
about what you can do to help, not just write down in some heavily
metaphor loaded language what you think is wrong. That's simply not
helping.
