You could, but I would advise you to consider C or python since there
are direct xfce bindings for that and make yourself a plugin.

Compiler? Well gcc ofcourse!

Concidering you probably wouldn't be asking this question if you'd
prefer vim or emacs, i won't recommend vim this time. You could try
Geany[0] instead.
