Adding bookmarks buttons to lightdash

I am writing a program based on xfce4-appfinder. I would like to have bookmarks shown as launcher buttons, similar to GNOME Shell.

There are two possible ways of doing this:

Is it possible for me to leverage xfce4-appfinder's existing bookmarks functionality and use it to create launcher buttons?

Alternatively, I could create my own bookmarks system.

Which of these is the best way to do this?
