Text orientation in vertical panels

That's good news.  I took a quick look at your screenshot of the deskbar 
mode, and I think it would be too wide for my little laptop.  It probably 
would work better for my desktop.  On my laptop I like to use the narrow 
vertical panel, but I'll test the deskbar mode there anyway.  I don't have 
experience with installing dev versions, but I'll try to do it.

On my laptop where I run xubuntu, not all panel items rotate the text in 
vertical mode, particularly problematic are the "Clock" and "Weather Update" 
(the 1st two items on this screenshot:

Hope they will look better in 4.9
