Yeah. I'd like to leave it open which implementation of the
specification is being used so that we can easily replace it later.
It's unlikely we'll ever do but who knows.

Another reason for not moving it into libtumbler is that this
library only really designed for tumbler plugins, not for client-side
applications. On the other hand, libtumbler also abstracts the
thumbnail cache (thus making the thumbnail managing standard somewhat
obsolete ;)), so we could maybe also use libtumbler for loading
thumbnails from the cache in the future.

But for now I'd prefer if we don't do that.

libxfce4ui doesn't depend on D-Bus (yet), does it?
