number of configured keyboard layouts

Hello,
Please excuse the slightly off-topic subject.
I've read in several places that X.Org and XKB limit in a hardcoded
manner the number of configured keyboard layouts to four. Would there
be any (easy) way that Xfce (settings manager) or xfce4-xkb work
around such a limitation?
