I just ran in that issue (xfdesktop not loading cause libjpeg.so.62
was not found) and the problem is not directly in xfdesktop. Xfdesktop
itself doesn't depend on libjpeg, it comes from thunar-vfs. While
compiling I saw that error:
| /usr/bin/ld: warning: libjpeg.so.62, needed by
/usr/local/lib/libthunar-vfs-1.so, not found (try using -rpath or
-rpath-link)
Rebuilding thunar than xfdesktop will most probably fix the problem.
