JPEG loading is dependent on whether or not you've built gtk+ with jpeg
support. Check and see if gtk+ or the jpeg library itself was recently
upgraded.

If you're using a source-based distribution, it should be fairly trivial
to rebuild gtk+ with --use-with=libjpeg or similar.
