Another thing that might come in handy would be "Package Manager".

Either one can do like in GNOME and KDE, and write a DBUS wrapper
for the various actual package managers - like done in PackageKit.
Or one can do it slightly lighter, as in the usual Xfce approach,
and just choose which package manager interface to be launching ?

I like the Smart Package Manager as the default, as implemented in:
http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel-plugins/xfce4-smartpm-plugin,
but it also allows using Yum Extender or APT Synaptic or gslapt...
The panel plugin doubles as a launcher, just like "mailwatch" does.

Haven't done anything for opening single package files yet, though.
