While I do think this functionality belongs entirely into gtk+ as
opposed to any application or library, leaving this out would be a very
unpleasant step backwards in my opinion.

I can live with 4 in the worst case, but if you remove it entirely I
will cry badly and you don't want that, do you? ;)
