Video/drm & XFCE 4.4.2 freeze console (not with KDE 3.5)

I disabled the XFree86-DRI extension in the file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf and that solved the problem.

Is the XFree86-DRI then broken?
But then why would this not cause any problems with KDE?

Are you sure XFCE is not doing anything wrong by calling
XFree86-DRI routines directly? 
Sorry, I don't know much about this video stuff, but
the problem only occurs with XFCE and it's very annoying!
