Bottom reply, please. Anyway, yeah, the mixer works independently of
which backend your multimedia applications use. Right now I'm using
audacious and the pulseaudio sound server and the mixer displays all
controls provided by ALSA.

There's none. The mixer just let's you change volumes and select which
tracks should be muted or used for recording. The fact that GStreamer
also provides a GstMixer interface might be confusing. But it does and
the interface is not related to what kind of codecs or audio/video
formats your multimedia applications support.
