Xarchiver giochannels hangs the GUI

The problem lies when I have to receive the input from cpio -tv < file.cpio.
I open the file and then I read data from it that I send to the cpio pipe. Then
I read the data that comes from cpio -tv < file.cpio. How can I overcome this
problem? How can I introduce a "speed limit"?
