can you reprogram the timers to wake you up when needed instead of every (x) 
seconds? if there is no alarm for the next 5 hours, you will have saved 3600 
wakeups!

or, run wakeups 60 seconds apart, and if the next scheduled event is less than 
60 seconds from now, schedule a wakeup at that time? this would still save you 
3300 wakeups in the example above.
