Developing a new app for Xfce

If your intention is learning to program GTK+ and/or writing an app from 
scratch then indeed there are plenty of tutorials and existing code to 
learn from. If you want to contribute to Xfce and are thinking about 
games I'd say a better route is checking out gnome-games

and make as many of them depend on GTK+ libs only (drop libgnomeui from 
most and you're done, some depend on gnome-vfs as well though). You can
learn from this as well, but you won't be a 'maintainer'. Your choice :)
