Yes, you don't have permission to use the Volume interface on HAL, which
basically means, HAL is not configured properly. See comment my comment
on bug #2715 (http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2715#c6) for one
possible way to fix that.

I'm actually surprised to see so many people with broken HAL setups. I
was under the impression that most Linux distros either use pam_console
(which is in the default HAL setup) or a customized HAL setup.
