thunar 0.4rc1 cpu usage

I have a directory with 1500+ files and I selected them all and did a 
mass rename. It caused thunar to peg the cpu and took several minutes to 
finish. I also went and zipped all the files individually with a script 
and it seemed the updating alone caused thunar to go between 30% and 50% 
cpu usage.  Is this expected behavior? I'm using hal 0.5.7.1, dbus 0.62, 
Linux 2.6.17.11 with inotify and gamin 0.1.7.
