action when minimizing a program

Hi,

Is it possible to configure the action when minimizing a program? What I want
to do is not to get the standard icon for the program on the desktop, but
generate on the fly an icon that show the state of the program just before I
minimize it and show this icon on the desktop.

If not possible, in which files in the sources must I look to change it?
