Because the plugin doesn't read minds and has no idea what you've just
done.  If it's that important to you, read your mail, and middle click
on the button to force a re-check.  Or just wait for the timeout period
again.  If you're that obsessive about checking your email that that's a
problem, I suggest you seek professional help.
