Exactly. So why can't the libraries be versioned properly in the first
palce. If nothing changes, then those version number wont change either,
and applications will still be able to link to them.

As far as I understood, the question proposed by Brain was - "do we
perhaps want to start versioning the filenames of our libs a bit better?".
