Panel plugin interface

Hi Jasper,

I can already tell from experience that there are even more symbols than 
you listed here. I am considering to just export all non-static 
functions and variables and be done with it.

The panel is sort of running now, but most plugins are not behaving 
correctly, likely due to these unresolved symbols.

Also, the panel seems too big to me. It's showing as approx. 3 times the 
height of the icons it contains. I suspect this is also a problem with 
symbols not being resolved correctly.

I must say that a redesign of the plugin interface seems like a good 
idea. It's currently hard to track/control which functions/vars a plugin 
is allowed to use.
