deactivating desktop menu icons not working

hi!

i go to settings manager, desktop settings, menu. then i click on "show
application icons" to disable it (by default is enabled). then i log out
(im not sure if necessary but i do it) and log in again.
nothing changes, when i right-click the menu appears with little icons
on left.
im using oscillation 4.2 debs on a debian testing machine.
