danny, i did that on purpose, because i don't feel like supporting 
earlier versions of 2.3.  i know that the code that i ripped from 
2.3.whateveritwas works.  now, if linking against 2.3 causes problems 
due to duplicate symbols (it shouldn't), then i'd be amenable to this 
sort of change, but otherwise i'm not.  reverting...

btw, i noticed you mentioned on #xfce-dev about making an xfdesktop 
component for the bug tracker - sounds like a good idea.  whoever can do 
that, please do ^_^.
