Xfdesktop CVS aborts on invalid menu file

fixed.  moral of the story: g_error() is overkill.

p.s. how come i don't get my own emails on xfce-commits?  i checked my 
mailman settings on the list server, and it _does_ say i should be 
getting my own posts...
