gtk theme problems

you need to install gtk themes and theme engines into the same prefix 
that gtk is installed.  no way around this.

as of when (as in, when did you check out the code).  last night (or 
maybe the night before) i fixed a large crash in which the stack was 
getting corrupted.  either way, i'm unable to reproduce it when changing 
themes anymore.
