xffm build failure

Thanks for the pointer. I just removed the directive from the build
process. I hope the other directives I added don't cause trouble. My
version of gcc is:
gcc (GCC) 3.3.3 20040412 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.3-r6, ssp-3.3.2-2,
pie-8.7.6).
So I suppose there must be something during the gcc build which allows
me to use the directive.
