i18n strings not getting installed

I downloaded the latest CVS tar ball and compiled and installed it
sucessfully. But none of the i18n strings for any of the XFCE4 core or
modules were installed. I first experienced this with FreeBSD but
thought it maybe paculiar to it because I have RC2 version running on a
Redhat box with out any problems. But now, I installed the CVS tarball
on a Debian Unstable distribution and same result. None of the strings
(not for any language) got installed. All other GTK2/Gnome apps. seem
to be fine.

Am I missing something?
