Rootwindow printer?

Hi there!

I've just 'jumped ship' to XFCE after many centuries of using WindowMaker and
FVWM, and I like it a lot!  

My main gripe about XFCE is that xfdesktop hijacks the root-window making
things like root-tail or xearth not work.  (Unless I'm missing something?)

I can live without earth, but root-tail is somewhat more important to me.

Is anyone hacking on a root-tail replacement for xfdesktop yet?  If not, I'll
give it a go.  Good GTK practice :-)
