XFce 4.0 and advanced filesystem features (locking, symlinks, etc...)

Hello list !!

 Is it possible to run XFce 4.0 on a home directory that resides on a 
filesystem that does not support advanced filesystem features such as 
locking, pipes, symlinks etc... (e.g. a Samba share  - I can not use 
'unix extensions' for Samba).
