Problem with latest xfwm4

Due to work issues and the birth of my son, I hadn't updated my XFCE 
in a little over a month. I downloaded the latest sources, and xfwm4 now
fails with the message:
"xfwm4: relocation error: xfwm4: undefined symbol: MyDisplayFullWidth"

I've tried the sources as of thursday, friday, and today, to make sure
it wasn't a transient glitch. 

The version as of one month ago worked fine.

My system is a vanilla redhat 9, gtk2-2.2.1-4. I use the following
to start xfce4:

xfce-mcs-manager
xfce4-iconbox &
xfdesktop &
xfwm4 --daemon
exec xfce4-panel

Am I doing something obvious and/or stupid wrong, or is this really
a bug that's worth my taking some time to dig into?
