Well, xfce4 works with gnome-session, but gnome-session launches the gnome panel
anyway, so unless you want the gnome panel, it's not very usefull for xfce4

As for xsm, it crashes with or without xfce4 here. So I'm not sure that xfce4
could be guilty...

But you are right, it needs some more testing.
