XFWM4 can't find libxfce4gui.so.0

Hi,
I just installed XFCE4 from cvs (checked out 3/4 days ago) and installed tham 
as per the webpage.  I had to set a build variable on where to find the 
libxfcegui package after which it built fine.

I then edited my xinitrc file as directed and ran startx.  X started up fine 
but no XFCE.  when I break out there is a message saying libxfce4gui.so.0 
could not be found/doesn't exist.  I found it residing in /usr/local/lib.

I am running the most current gentoo linux distribution.  Any help or 
direction would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

p.s. I tried sending a similar email to the post from my adelphia.net account 
but moongroup doesn'y seem to accept email from them.  is this true? and I 
apologize if it got through and was already answered.  I didn't see it in the 
archives though. Thanks again.
