From rob at landley.net Fri Jan 2 07:42:30 2026 From: rob at landley.net (Rob Landley) Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2026 00:42:30 -0600 Subject: bug: resize -s 80 25 made Terminal very unhappy in 4.18. Message-ID: <197b319c-6b92-4b0f-927b-eb5410ceec13@landley.net> I keep forgetting the "resize -s" command wants "25 80" instead of "80 25", and when that happens I have to grab the top border and shrink it and drag the window back up several times before I can see everything on the screen again. Fine, pilot error: but after I fix the height, the _width_ of the terminal is screwed up and reports that it's narrower than it actually is (when I drag to resize it). The problem is the width didn't actually change, but THINKS it did, and it stops shrinking when it says it's at width 4 but is still actually something like 40 wide. This borked state persists until I close all the tabs in that terminal and close and reopen the terminal window. This only happens when I have multiple terminal tabs open, it works fine on a terminal that isn't showing tabs. A terminal with no tabs actually changes its width, a terminal with tabs doesn't change its width but THINKS it did. Rob (I'm not sure if I reported this bug before, but it's still there after a devuan version upgrade, so I thought I'd poke again...)
